Sixteen students were inducted into the VHS National Honor Society during a ceremony held Monday evening in the VHS Cafeteria. Five juniors and 11 sophomores earned a spot in the National Honor Society based on their grades in the classroom, their character, their leadership qualities and their service to the community.

The 16 new inductees almost doubled the size of the current NHS, which has nine members. Three of those, Kellan Byars, Kaitlyn Beam and Yuleyka Ramirez, are seniors and received the NHS stoles they will wear at commencement exercises during the ceremony.

Before the inductees took the National Honor Society Pledge, current members explained each of the four society pillars – Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character – and a candle was lit for each. After saying the pledge, the inductees received their NHS certificate.

The newest members of the VHS National Honor Society include: Juniors – Ben Armstrong, Kamryn Hall, Brooklyn Harjo, Aaliyah Moralez, and Ty Scott; Sophomores – Lily Beam, Avery Conley, Kenzie Dobbs, Bowie Eakin, Gabbi Hernandez, Brandon Juarez, Sriram Kadiyala, Aye Khine, Claire Mayo, Brek Payne, and Luis Perez.

Current NHS members who will be seniors next year are Keigan Ballard, Mason Ballard, Zayley Horn, Hannah Jones, Jeana Martinez, and Klancy Sherrill.

Serving as the NHS sponsor is Allison Stanley.

Following the ceremony students were joined by members of their families and enjoyed refreshments of cookies, cake and punch made by the VHS Culinary Arts students.
